FAQs
When and where did 141 Eyewear start?
141 Eyewear was co-founded by Kyle Yamaguchi and Shu-Chu Wu in Portland, Oregon. We had always dreamt of starting our own business. In 2009, we decided to combine our passions for eyewear and product creation and start our own eyewear line. On a weekend drive up to Seattle from Portland, we decided that creating an eyewear company where we donated a pair of glasses for each pair we sold would be the right thing to do. It kind of just happened. Getting things going is another story!
How can I help the 141 Eyewear mission?
The first step is to purchase a pair of 141 Eyewear. Afterwards, it’s as easy as wearing your pair of 141 Eyewear and sharing the 141 story with your friends and family. If 141 Eyewear is not available in your area, please contact your local optometry clinic and request that they carry our line. In addition, please join our email list and become a member of our 141 community. If you want to take your involvement a step further, please send an email to info@141eyewear.com and let us know if you are interested in volunteering at a 141 Eyewear Clinic.
Is 141 Eyewear a non-profit organization?
No. 141 Eyewear is a for-profit business. Our ability to give is not reliant upon the donations of others…rather your purchase. As long we we are selling glasses, we will be giving glasses.
Where is 141 Eyewear Manufactured?
141 Eyewear is handcrafted in Japan.
Is the 141 product line made up of only plastic frames?
Currently, yes. Our launch collection consists of ten different styles…all made of cellulose acetate, a high quality plastic; however, we are currently in the mix and working on a collection of metal frames as well as a sun line.
What is a 141 Eyewear Clinic?
Once we know how many pairs of 141 Eyewear we sold for the year, we partner with doctors and members of our 141 community to hold a clinic where we organize free eye exams and give new prescription glasses. Our first clinic is taking place in January 2010 in southern Taiwan.
Do the 141 Eyewear clinics only occur overseas?
Our first 141 Eyewear Clinic will be taking place in southern Taiwan in January 2010. Based on our sales for the year, we are planning two 141 Eyewear Clinics in 2011: one in the States and another overseas.
Can I participate in a domestic or international 141 Eyewear Clinic?
There are a limited number of spots for members of our 141 community to participate in a 141 Eyewear Clinic. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to info@141eyewear.com. Our first clinic is taking place in January 2010. Our next will take place in 2011.

How do I clean/maintain my 141 Eyewear?
Wash your glasses under running water with a little liquid soap then dry them with a soft cotton cloth or the one provided with your case. Remember to prevent unwanted accidents by always storing your frames in your case.
What do the frame sizes mean?
The measurement of the frame corresponds to the eye opening/lens size and the bridge size. Eyeglass sizes are listed as number [ ] number – number e.g. 44[ ]17-140. All measurements are listed in millimeters. The first number (44, 46, etc) stands for the eye size or the measure of each individual lens opening horizontally. The second number (17, 22, etc) is the length of the bridge (or the distance between the lenses). The last number is the temple length. Please note that all frames must be custom fitted by an optician to fit your face correctly.
How do I measure my face to determine what size frame I need?
This is very subjective but there are a few rules we follow. We like to make sure the eye is well centered in the frame and that the width of the overall frame ends up being similar to the width of your head.
Are the sizes universal?
Yes, all sizes are universal – and note that eyeglasses are measured using the metric system.
